The 142nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi Held on 3rd October 2011
Malaysia joined the rest of the world in celebrating the 142nd anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi on 3rd October 2011. This important Day has been designated by the UN as the International Day of Non-Violence and celebrated each year on October 2. As October 2 this year falls on a Sunday Malaysians celebrated this event on Monday, 3rd October, 2011 at 5.00 p.m. at the Banquet Hall, Royal Lake Club, Kuala Lumpur.

Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday
More than 400 guests including diplomats, lawyers, academics, fine arts practioners, entrepreneurs, government officials, opposition party members and the media packed the Banquet Hall of the Royal Lake Club in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday on October 3 (a day after the actual event as that fell on a Sunday).

Spreading Peace
In celebration of the international Day of Non-Violence, the High Commission of India, together with the Gandhi Memorial Trust organised the second Gandhi Memorial Lectures where a distinguished panel spoke on peace, amity and harmony amongst individuals and nations. The turnout was exceptional, with many involved in advocating human rights and the causes the late inspirational Mahatma Gandhi championed. Presentations of tokens and a short musical ensued, followed by high tea and fellowship.
